History Of Markham Ontario

Markham is a town in the Regional Municipality of York, within the Greater Toronto Area of Southern Ontario, Canada. It lies approximately 27 kilometers northeast of Toronto’s downtown core.

Markham’s Local History

Markham was one of the six townships in the first survey of what was then called Upper Canada. In 1794, William Berczy surveyed Markham in its new role as a township and established 75 German settlers in what is now Markham Village.

From Markham, take HWY 407 west and exit Bathurst St. Drive north on Bathurst and continue till you reach Rutherford RD. Take left on Rutherford road and head west till Tomas Cook. On Tomas Cook, you will take right and continue straight until you reach Golden Trail.
